Local Area Unemployment Statistics Update - November 2011

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released local area unemployment statistics for November 2011, and Oakland County's jobless rate has dropped from 9.4% in October to 8.1% in November. This was the largest single month decline in the jobless rate since the same period in 2010. Employment among the County's residents increased by 1,168 while the labor force declined by 7,480.

With a non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate of 8.1%, Oakland County now has a jobless rate lower than the national rate (8.2% non-seasonally adjusted) for the first time since April 2004 (at that time, the County's jobless rate was 4.8% compared to 5.4% nationally).
